Turn a salary into an hourly rate

A calendar and a clock linked by pay tokens

The calculator divides pay by the paid hours in the same period. It can also work backward from an hourly rate to weekly, monthly, and annual pay.

Use one consistent work schedule

Choose the direction, enter the pay amount, then set paid hours per week and working weeks per year. Use the same currency or accounting unit throughout; the calculator does not need to know its name.

Hy=Hwร—Wy,Rh=SyHyH_y=H_w\times W_y,\qquad R_h=\frac{S_y}{H_y}

The first expression turns weekly hours into annual paid hours. The second divides annual pay by that total to find pay per hour.

Examples that expose the arithmetic

Monthly salary. 5,000 per month, 40 hours a week, and 52 weeks a year equals 60,000 / 2,080 = 28.85 per hour.

Annual salary with unpaid time off. 72,000 per year over 36 hours and 40 weeks equals 50 per hour.

Hourly rate. 30 per hour for 25 hours over 48 weeks gives 750 per week, 3,000 per month on average, and 36,000 per year.

An equivalent rate is not a complete job comparison

Use gross pay for a gross result and take-home pay for a take-home result. Add regular bonuses to the entered amount only when you want them included in the comparison.

Paid leave may remain inside a 52-week salary schedule. Unpaid weeks should reduce the working-week count or the annual amount. Benefits, commuting time, overtime rules, and taxes need a separate comparison.

Questions about salary and hourly pay

Should I enter gross or net pay?

Either works, but compare like with like. A gross input gives a gross hourly equivalent; a take-home input gives a take-home equivalent.

Why is monthly pay calculated by dividing the year by 12?

The calculator reports an average calendar month. Multiplying weekly pay by four would count only 48 weeks.

Do paid vacation weeks count?

Usually yes when the salary continues during leave. Reduce the week count only when those weeks are unpaid or excluded from the amount.

Can I use the calculator for part-time work?

Yes. Enter the actual paid hours per week and the number of weeks worked during the year.

Does the result include bonuses and benefits?

Only amounts included in the pay field are counted. Non-cash benefits and irregular payments are not valued automatically.
