How the days-to-hours converter works

A full day split between a sun and a moon inside a clock

Enter a duration in days or hours. The other field updates immediately, and the middle control reverses the conversion while keeping the same length of time.

The 24-hour rule

This converter treats one day as a fixed duration of 24 hours:

1โ€‰d=24โ€‰h1\,\mathrm{d}=24\,\mathrm{h}

Multiply days by 24 to get hours. Divide hours by 24 to return to days. Decimal days are useful when a duration includes part of a day.

Quick duration checks

A 0.5-day booking lasts 12 hours. A 2.5-day job lasts 60 hours. Seven days contain 168 hours. In the other direction, 36 hours equal 1.5 days.

The unit changes, but the duration does not. This makes the converter useful for schedules, equipment runtimes and travel estimates that use different units.

When a calendar needs more than multiplication

The calculation uses elapsed 24-hour days. It does not compare dates, apply time zones, account for clock changes or separate working days from days off.

For example, โ€œthree calendar days from Mondayโ€ is a date question. โ€œThree days of continuous runtimeโ€ is a duration of 72 hours and fits this converter exactly.
