How the microgram-to-milligram converter works

One milligram contains one thousand micrograms
The two metric prefixes differ by a factor of 1000:
Divide micrograms by 1000 to get milligrams. Multiply milligrams by 1000 to return to micrograms.
Small values that make the scale clear
- 25 µg equals 0.025 mg.
- 400 µg equals 0.4 mg.
- 1500 µg equals 1.5 mg.
- 2.25 mg equals 2250 µg.
A leading zero matters for values below one milligram: 0.025 mg is much easier to read safely than .025 mg.
Read the unit before reading the number
The microgram symbol is µg. Plain-text labels sometimes use mcg because the Greek-looking µ character is not always convenient to type. Both refer to micrograms; mg means milligrams and is one thousand times larger.
The converter changes units only. It does not choose a dose, judge a laboratory result or convert mass to volume.
