How the seconds-to-hours converter works

The factor behind the result

One hour contains exactly 3600 seconds:

3600\,\mathrm{s}=1\,\mathrm{h}

Divide seconds by 3600 to get decimal hours. Multiply hours by 3600 to return to seconds.

These checks cover a half hour, a quarter-hour fraction and the reverse direction.

A result of 1.5 hours means 1 hour 30 minutes. By contrast, 1.30 decimal hours means 1 hour 18 minutes because 0.30 of an hour is 18 minutes.

The converter changes one duration between units. It does not read a timestamp, adjust time zones or remove pauses from an activity.

The same exact factor works for whole and fractional values in either field.

5400 seconds equals 1.5 hours.

15 minutes is 900 seconds, which is 0.25 hour.

2 hours is 7200 seconds and 20 minutes is 1200 seconds, for a total of 8400 seconds.
