How the mass converter works

A one-kilogram weight balanced by a group of smaller gram weights

Enter a mass in kilograms or grams. The other field updates at once, and the middle control reverses the direction without changing the mass.

Useful values for food and parcels

A 0.5 kg bag contains 500 g, 1.25 kg of flour is 1,250 g, and a 2.75 kg parcel is 2,750 g. Going back the other way, 125 g is 0.125 kg.

The number changes because the unit becomes smaller or larger. The physical amount stays the same.

One prefix gives the conversion rule

A gram is one thousandth of a kilogram, so the relationship is exact:

1โ€‰kg=1000โ€‰g1\,\mathrm{kg}=1000\,\mathrm{g}

Multiply kilograms by 1,000 to get grams. Divide grams by 1,000 to return to kilograms.

What the result does not measure

The converter changes units; it does not improve the accuracy of the original measurement. If a scale reads only to the nearest 10 g, writing the answer as 1.230 kg does not create extra precision.

Mass is also different from force. Everyday labels commonly say โ€œweightโ€ while showing kg or g, but the values converted here are units of mass.
