How the power converter works
Enter a power value in watts or kilowatts. The other field updates immediately, and the middle control reverses the conversion while preserving the same power.
Power ratings at a readable scale
A label showing 60 W is 0.06 kW. A 750 W rating becomes 0.75 kW, and 2,500 W becomes 2.5 kW. In the other direction, 3.2 kW is 3,200 W.
The conversion changes only the unit. It does not say whether a device draws its rated power continuously.
The kilo prefix supplies the whole formula
Kilo means one thousand in the International System of Units. A kilowatt therefore contains exactly one thousand watts:
Divide watts by 1,000 to get kilowatts. Multiply kilowatts by 1,000 to return to watts.
Watts are power, not energy
W and kW describe power, the rate at which energy is transferred or used. Electricity consumed over time is commonly expressed in kilowatt-hours, so a duration is required before power can become an energy figure.
The converter does not calculate cost, current, voltage, efficiency or starting demand. Use the rating that matches the comparison you need, especially when equipment lists both typical and peak power.
Questions about watts and kilowatts
The short answers separate a unit conversion from energy and electrical design calculations.
How many watts are in one kilowatt?
One kilowatt is exactly 1,000 watts.
How do I convert watts to kilowatts?
Divide the number of watts by 1,000.
How do I convert kilowatts to watts?
Multiply the number of kilowatts by 1,000.
Is 1 kW the same as 1 kWh?
No. kW measures power, while kWh measures energy accumulated over time.
Can watts alone tell me the electricity cost?
No. You also need operating time and the applicable price per unit of energy.
